Halifax mortgage deal launched to help foot stamp duty bills.

A new Halifax mortgage deal has been launched aimed specifically at helping those first time buyers who have missed out on the Government's stamp duty holiday.

For those first time buyers taking on a Halifax mortgage after the end of the stamp duty concession, the Halifax advise they will refund fifty per cent of their stamp duty bill. This could reduce first time buyers costs by up to £1250.

The Halifax stamp duty deal is offered exclusively to first time property buyers for 85 to 90 per cent LTV. Their new fee free 2 year fixed rate mortgage is offered at 5.99 per cent reverting to the lender's variable rate at the end of the fixed period.

The 50 per cent stamp duty refund is available for property purchased between £125,000 and £250,000 and will be paid to the buyer's solicitor upon completion

The new product is available to all first time property buyers, but as an extra incentive the Halifax also plan to offer its current account customers taking on a first time mortgage, a further £150 on completion.

Recent Halifax mortgage research revealed 4 out of 10 first time purchasers benefited through the stamp duty concession. Stephen Noakes the Halifax mortgage director commented saying that now the stamp duty holiday has come to an end the Halifax are keen to soften the blow first time buyers may experience with stamp duty bills.
