Northern Rock mortgage deals are offered through Virgin Money.

If you are looking for a Northern Rock mortgage, the lender was sold a few months ago to Virgin Money.

Northern Rock mortgage deals are now available through Virgin money who say that they are offering a range of mortgages to suit all borrowers whether they are buying a new home, remortgaging or looking for a buy-to-let  deal. Virgin advise that in their range of products something is available to suit everyone.

The Northern Rock Buidling Society was founded in 1965 after the Northern Counties Permanent BS and the Rock BS merged. In 1997 the building society went public but by 2007 the bank was in trouble and had to be bailed out by the Bank of England.

In February 2008 Northern Rock was nationalised in a move which the chancellor called 'temporary'. The bank was then split into a good and bad bank in December 2009, and around 18 months later the new chancellor George Osborne announced the Government wanted to sell the bank off to one buyer.

That single buyer was Virgin Money who completed the purchase at the beginning of this year. Virgin advise that the bank plans to loan around £45 billion in mortgages in its first 5 years.

Northern Rock mortgage customers were notified of branding changes and told they should benefit from both a better range of financial products and an improved service.
