Mortgage and remortgage advice from Deal Direct has become increasingly important following a proposal by the Mortgage Market Review to implement a ban on non-advised sales.

It is believed that mortgage comparison sites could fall foul of the MMR consultation paper published in December 2011, which proposed the majority mortgage sales should be advised. With comparison sites this is not always the case according to Bovill consultant Kate Robinson, who says that the consequences of the MMR proposals may be serious for those currently operating a mortgage advice service without FSA permission. Those in this position are likely to have to stop trading until they have FSA permission.

She added that this may be both time-consuming and costly and could mean some mortgage comparison sites will be lost from the market.
