As inflation had previously hit the 3% mark, it was widely anticipated that there would be not one, but two increases to the base rate imposed this year by the Bank of England.

The first increase was expected to hit in May, however, since inflation dropped to a lower than expected figure in March, this is looking less likely.

This is very good news for mortgage, remortgage and buy-to-let mortgage hunters.

Following the announcement of last November’s base rate rise, many high street mortgage lenders increased their prices even before it happened. However, following the most recent inflation figure, it’s more likely that lenders will take a wait-and-see approach before taking action to increase rates.

As a result, mortgage rates are still available at very affordable rates with some even continuing to be offered at record low levels.
